Sep 26, 2012 - She died because Rebekah stood in the middle of wickery bridge and matt was about to run over her so he turned and crashed and Elena and him went straight into the water. Elena told Stefan to get matt out first and he argued with her for a few seconds and then took matt first after a bit more she ran out of hair and died. So now she is a vamp.
